A designated space for people to listen to other queer, trans, and/or Asian poets, reflect, and write healing into existence. Paru is a queer AAPI owned small business.

This event centers and uplifts the Queer and Trans Asian and Pacific Islander community.

kira wei-hsin jacobson (許維昕) (they/them) is a transmedial artist and writer currently based in san diego. their work addresses the experience of being an ambiguous body in a deeply hierarchical and categorical society.

Elaine Wang has been published in Cherry Tree, The Open Culture Collective, Dust Poetry Magazine, F(r)iction #14, Auburn Avenue, Elastic Magazine, Memorious, Sunstar, Spires, cahoodaloodaling, Zero Ducats, the Lantern Review, FreezeRay, and Front Porch (now Porter House Review). She/he/they was part of 92y’s #wordswelivein project, 7x7’s Exquisite Corpse (collaboration with Kenji Liu), and Unmargin's "Incantations." Kundiman Fellow and 2014 & 2017 Pushcart Prize Nominee, as well as 2015 Best New Poets Nominee. Born and (mostly) raised in Texas, now residing in Los Angeles. www.theelainewang.com

ABOUT QTAPI WEEK:

QTAPI Week is a nationally recognized week when organizers demonstrate the strength and resilience of the Asian, Pacific Islander, Middle-Eastern, Desi American (APIMEDA) community in the face of continued violence as well as pride in identity as part of the LGBTQ community. QTAPI Week is held annually on the last week of May to celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month and/or the first week of Pride Month in order to uplift and honor the queer and trans AAPI community.

ABOUT QAPIMEDA:

The San Diego Queer APIMEDA Coalition (QAPIMEDA) was formed in 2019 to create a safe and welcoming space designed to build capacity and leaders within the LGBTQ+ APIMEDA community, promote connectivity, combat stereotypes and racism, and mobilize civic and economic power
